Anyone free Tuesday?
I'm in hot water. I need a speaker to talk to a group of three garden clubs
in West Chester, a suburb of Philadelphia, on Tuesday afternoon.
Long story, mostly boring, but it has become interesting in the last day. I
agreed to do this talk last summer. I've never spoken in the Philadelphia
area, though my column runs in eight papers in the western suburbs. I asked
them if they would mind if I mentioned it in the column so readers could
attend. Nope. Public not invited. But they said I could set up another
program for the public. Which I did. I'll be doing a two hour presentation
on container gardening at Longwood Gardens on Tuesday afternoon.
Here's the problem. I assumed the garden club talk was in the evening. They
never actually gave me a time, but I've talked to garden clubs for thirty
years, and they've been in weekday evenings or occasionally Saturday
mornings. Well, this club meets on Tuesday afternoons. I have checked all
the emails (which I save), and they never mentioned that. In fact, I emailed
them a couple of days ago asking for details on location and time, and I
hadn't had a reply before the organic fertilizer hit the fan.
I honestly don't know what the fee is. With individual garden clubs, my
policy has always been to accept whatever their standard fee is, with the
caveat that if there is a sliding scale I hoped I would be condsidered on
the high end. But these are three pretty high toned clubs, so I expect it
would be decent. And you get lunch.
If anyone is available and interested, please contact me off list.
