Re: Question About Google's Picasa Software

What I like best about Picasa is it allows you to tag photos, which it calls
putting them into albums. So I can tag one photo "flowers" "autumn" and
"colchicums" and be able to find it in any of those albums. (If you have
more than one user on your computer, the albums aren't shared between
desktops.) Unfortunately there is no way to easily tag your existing photos
already on your computer, except to go through them year by year.

I don't think it has exceptionally good editing abilities. It won't let you
custom crop, for example, which I need to do when making banner photos for
my website. (If you only occasionally need that kind of utility,
Picnik.comdoes the job.) I use Corel's Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 for
editing and
cropping, but I use Picasa to find them! When you first install Picasa, it
does a thorough search of all your hard drives, so make sure you allow time
for that. For instance, install it right before you go to bed, and let it
run all night doing the cataloging.

It can also download photos from your camera, but I find it goes faster to
copy them straight to the hard drive with a card reader, and then let Picasa
"find" them.
