commercial blogs and other commercial writing
I've been reading everyone's comments on this subject with interest. The
discussion touches on another question that I've been trying to resolve.
I often see garden products, garden centres, gardening services, etc., that
REALLY need help with their communications. And I know I could help them
(for a fee, of course).
BUT I wonder, if I do writing projects for commercial interests like these,
would this be seen as a conflict of interest for me as an independent garden
writer? Would it jeopardize my credibility as a feature writer or columnist,
say?
As a garden journalist, I feel I probably shouldn't also work for gardening
businesses. On the other hand, it's pretty hard to make a living as an
independent!
Am I splitting hairs here? Being too precious about ethics? I'd really like
to hear others' opinions. (Do be kind, tho. A tough winter and tough economy
have left me feeling kinda tender, like some of my poor perennials.)
