Re: the etiquette of outstanding balances

Asking is important. So many companies are running close to the line that
they may not ignore an invoice or such. The accountant at the last small paper
put it this way:
If we pay things on time, the amount is small and gets paid promptly.
Things that get left behind, like when I didn't invoice on a weekly basis, or they
forgot to pay, accumulate and get into the 'pay when we can' pile; and
things that are substantial when they accumulate get into the 'gosh I hope we can
pay that one day' pile! I learnt that you ask right away, and limit the
amount I wrote each week so that I did not end up in the middle pile.
So ask. I found that going in and asking face to face worked, but it was
small paper - I don't know that it would work in a larger one let alone a
magazine.

But I did learn that if you don't ask (which I found very uncomfortable for
many reasons), you won't get paid.
