Copyright hearings in Palo Alto and DC
In regards to the disappearing concept of copyright; this interesting
little tidbit in the Federal Register showed up a few days ago about
hearings on circumvention of copyright protection systems...:
http://frwebgate1.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/PDFgate.cgi?WAISdocID=884464409930+0+2+0&WAISaction=retrieve
Scroll down the middle column of the first page and under Library of
Congress Copyright Office...what are your interpretations of this? To
me it is weird.
My interpretation of the title "Exemption to Prohibition on
Circumvention of Copyright Protection Systems for Access Control"
means defeating copyright protection to enable non-infringing uses for
entities like Google.
I have sort of accepted and resigned myself to modern day copyrights
are becoming more and more useless and "quaint" (much like the Bushies
calling The Constitution "quaint") in the internet age where
everything is supposed to be "free" and if it isn't, the thieves will
just take it anyway one way or another.
Is the government legalizing the thievery with these hearings and
subsequent proposals that will come out of the hearings?
