Re: Columbine Question

Lois:

Not knowing where you're located or what the foliage and flowers look like
it's difficult to know if it's a native or introduced. but Aquilegia is very
promiscuous and cross breeds freely when the conditions are right. Columbine
seed is set in early summer, it drops to the ground and some will germinate
and over winter as very small plants while others will germinate the
following spring. However, if the seed is not exposed to light it will not
germinate...so any seed that gets leaf litter, mulch or other organic matter spread
over it by mother nature...won't germinate.
