The Best of all Possible Postings

This being a list owner is a real learning process. One thing I've had a
very hard time with is how to guide the list without sounding like a nag.

For example, the thread on insect repellants went on longer than was
necessary and devolved into what was essentially chitchat. So how do I ask
threads like that to stop when no one really meant harm? Trouble is, each
little contribution to such a thread tends to lead the list away from the
noble enterprise of garden writing, while still being just sort of somewhat
connected to it.

What it comes down to is that it's up to each and every member of the
list to think about what you post before you post it. Ask yourself if it's
a real contribution, or does it just scratch your own itch to chime in.

Help me keep from turning into a nag. Make your posts the best they can
be.
