The North American Butterfly Association and other, similar groups, say the houses look nice but butterflies don't take up residence in them.

Does anyone know anything about butterfly houses? Are they totally ridiculous or are they worth putting up? Are there any precautions one should take with them regarding types of wood, finishes, and so on?
