Re: Fw: garden columns


It's easy to say ask for what your work is worth, but in all  
likelyhood, the paper will drop you if you ask for a raise.  That  
puts you in that difficult situation of deciding is the experience  
and exposure from the column worth working for less?  We had a  
colleague in a large city newspaper for 12 years and with a good  
following getting dropped when she asked for $50 raise, first in ten  
years.
In a weekly paper, gardening is usually low on the totem pole in  
terms of priority.  On the other hand, if you have evidence that your  
column has a good following, then maybe you have some wiggle room.  I  
suspect $100 or $150 a week is about all you can generate from a  
weekly publication.  Good luck.
