Re: planting out dates?

Because of our early spring in NY our official growing season started two
weeks earlier than last year according to the NWS. In our zone 5 area the
lettuce, beets, mache, spinach and radishes are definitely ahead of previous
years but my hostas that are not under the canopy of lilac foliage got
toasted last week by below freezing temps two nights in a row as did four
hydrangeas that are out in the open. Our apple trees here and in Westchester
have long since finished blooming but just a mile up the street which is
1000 feet higher in altitude they haven't bloomed yet and the top of the
mountain is leafless with pathches of snow. Meanwhile..out in Southampton where
we have a maritime climate that's not a subject to the changes in air
masses as the water tempers even the coldest of cold fronts everything seems to
be right on time.

Sooooo...my zone 7 is right on time, my zone 6 is two weeks early and my
zone 5 is as unpredictable as always.

Just curious. The traditional planting date for going outdoors in
Anchorage is Memorial Day weekendâthis year a week later than normal. Any other
folks have such late planting out dates?
