Re: planting out dates?
That is interesting - we were about two weeks behind because of a long and
rather cool spring. We didn't hit 60 let alone 70 or 80 in Feb or March so
everything waited. A usual spring does the up and down thing, so early
growth gets zapped, but this year everything popped at the same time (did a
real number on the pollen count) and then spring went on as usual. Really
brings to light the thread from a few weeks back about planting when the
local flora indicates things are warm enough.

The traditional planting date for tender plants is also Memorial Day
in Lapeer County in Michigan, some 50 miles north of Detroit. May 15th
is the date in Metro Detroit. This year we have had a warm
April( popped up into the 80's one day) and trees and shrubs are about
2 weeks ahead of schedule. However, until this week we have been
dropping into the 30's and 40's at night and I have some frost damage
on tree and shrub leaves close to the house that are in micro
climates. Great year for daffs, lousy year for tulips.
