Re: [GWL]: New Book for Florida Gardeners and new books in general

I just wanted to say that the book on garden troughs was absolutely super.
If anyone on this list wants to make troughs and write about trough-making,
it is the must-have reference. All the best to you, Betty, and I hope your
new book will be as successful.

On another but related topic, I'd like to hear from folks on the list on
their recommendations of recently published books about gardening and
horticulture. I've just finished Michael Pollan's The Botany of Desire and
highly recommend it as an absorbing good read. The chapters on apples,
marijuana and potatoes were exceptional. I went out and bought organic
pototoes after that. As for marijuana, well, we  won't go there...

I have also just bought Francis Cabot's The Greater Perfection: The Story of
the Gardens at Les Quatre Vents. This a gorgeous book about his exceptional
garden in Quebec. Very pricey, almost a coffee table book but with a lot of
horticurtural content too, such as the building of stone walls and the
making of this amazing garden. I think anybody who's been to visit this
garden with Larry Hodgson's GWAA tour will want this book, as will anyone
who wanted to go on the tour but didn't.
