         Evert Clark/Seth Payne Award for Young Science
         Journalists

  Deadline: December 10, 2001

  The National Press Foundation
  ( http://www.nationalpress.org/ ) has issued a  call for
  entries for the Evert Clark/Seth Payne Award for young
  science writers.

  The award is intended to encourage young science writers
  by recognizing outstanding reporting and writing in any
  field of science. The winner will receive $1,000 and
  expenses to attend the annual meeting of the American
  Association for the Advancement of Science.

  The award is limited to non-technical print journalism,
  including articles published in newspapers, magazines,
  and newsletters on any of the following (but not limited
  to) subjects: biology; the physical, environmental, com-
  puter, or space sciences; technology; mathematics; health;
  and science policy. Staff writers as well as freelancers
  are eligible, and entries will be judged on the basis of
  accuracy, clarity, insightfulness, fairness, resourceful-
  ness, and timeliness.

  Applicants must be age 30 or younger. The 2001 award will
  be limited to those applicants whose 31st birthday is
  December 31, 2001, or later. Articles must have been pub-
  lished between December 1, 2000, and December 1, 2001,
  but an entire series will be accepted if most of it was
  published between those dates.
