Re: Burpee's "Lawnbuster"


Fran, you're right: laying down newspaper, then mulch, does make a garden
that you can plant immediately. Ands that's essentially the process I
describe in my book WEEDLESS GARDENING ($8.95, Workman Publishing). I do go
into more detail iin my book, with details such as assessing the site (you
can't expect plants that like well-drained soil to grow to thrive in poorly
drained soil no matter how you start a garden, for example), kinds of
mulches, and -- most important -- avoiding future soil compaction and
maintaining such a garden year after year.
