Sweet Pea Book for Christmas gift

In the spirit of shameless self promotion which Lon has encouraged I'd like to suggest my latest title, The Sweet Pea Book, as a Christmas gift.

This is the first comprehensive book on sweet peas for over thirty years. It summarises the history of the development of the flower from a wild species to one of our most popular garden flowers, giving proper recognition of the substantial American contribution to this process. It also gives clear advice on choosing and growing sweet peas in different parts of North America and their is a comprehensive descriptive list, which includes with every heirloom variety I could find and which is still available.

Unlike previous books on the subject the focus is not on exhibiting sweet peas but on using them in the garden: in annual borders, mixed borders, in containers and as cut flowers (with advice on making cut flowers last longer).

The book features superb colour plates by judywhite (whose photography has won a number of GWA awards) and there is a website - http://www.scentedsweetpeas.com - where you can see some of the pictures and read the reviews.

This book is not published in the US (owing, believe it or not, to muddled communication between the British publisher and the prospective US publisher) but is available from amazon.co.uk at a price which - including airmail which takes about five or six days - is still less than the British list price. It is also available from at least one American sweet pea seed supplier. As more suppliers become available details will go on the website.

The fact that the book is not published in the US gives it great caché as a gift.

As the book is not published in the US, review copies are not available to North American writers from the publisher. British writers should contact Teresa Howes (THowes@chrysalisbooks.co.uk) for a copy. I have a limited number of my own copies which I can send to North American writers (please email me off list) but please bear in mind that I've had to buy them!

As you will realise, having been disappointed by my publisher I'm trying to raise awareness of the book in North America. Please email me off list with any queries.
