Ever since I played with multibabel a few years back, I haven't trusted
online translation services much.
http://www.tashian.com/multibabel/
The site takes a phrase and runs it through five different languages one
at a time, translating to English in between. For example,
'Check for scarring along the stems.'
becomes
'It examines, the end to mark the length of the registry.'
I sent this to a friend who translated tests with a company that produced
standardized pre-college exams; she had a blast forwarding to all of the
proponents of online translation services there. :)
