For deer, you might also try "Deerchaser," an electronic repellent  
whose motion activated sensor turns on a low level light (4.5 v) and a  
radio tuned to very low volume (deer are very sensitive to low levels  
of "human" noise). It has the advantage that all you have to do is to  
mount it on a pole -- no wiring or water needed -- and it works year  
'round. Full disclosure: I patented and get royalties on it. That  
said, people do find it to be very convenient, unobtrusive, and  
effective.
