Re: Garden Thugs
When I moved to the country I was astatic because I had the room to
plant anything my little heart desired. I was into the romance of all
things herbal and Soapwort ( Saporinia officinalis) was a plant I had
wanted to grow in my tiny city garden, but lacked the space. I had
visions of washing clothes with it one day. In the wilds it behaves
itself, coming off as dainty pink, fragrant phlox-like flower. In my
mixed border with its organic rich soil and little competition, it
quickly became a nightmare. Just when I think I've finally eradicated
it from my garden it rears its pretty little head. The rhizomatous
roots run deep and fast.
Not to be confused with the rockgarden vareity Soapwort Saponaria
ocymoides
