Re: Garden Thugs


Ah yes, Ribbon Grass.  "Where Ribbon Grass grows nothing else grows."
I inherited a patch of it planted in a contained area that came with  
my first house. I transplanted it to the back lot line where the soil  
was solid clay and nothing much grew.  Every fall we dumped tons of  
leaves on the stuff to try and kill it.  These were the maple leaves  
that all the old gardening books tell us smother plants if left in  
place over the winter. Never happened. Several years later we decided  
to remove the Ribbon Grass. We dug and dug. Never did get rid of all  
of it, but that hard pan clay had turned to gorgeous loam. I used to  
dig it out the soil spread it in other areas of my yard.
