LInked In And Endorsing

OK - help me out here.  I don't really use Linked In and don't see it as
much value to me as a self-employed writer  - I see it as mostly a
professional job-hunting etc etc social network.  My energy goes to places
where the bulk of consumers hang out.  But since the GWA conference,
there's been a raft of "endorsements" coming in.  Did somebody tell you
this should happen? LOL    And by doing it, what's the purpose?  What's the
end-game of endorsements or using LinkedIn?  If one of you would clue me in
on this, I'd be grateful.
