Re: [GWL]: Recommending plant sources
Trouble is, the nurseries can be sneaky about THAT too. I knew of a nursery
that always propagated an old apple tree on the place that bloomed but never
set. Out of an apple variety? Send one of the nonbearing ones. Then the
customer never got fruit to know that they didn't get the apple they wanted,
and just thought the tree wasn't getting pollinized. I've met people who
bought (for example) several vines of kiwifruit that were all supposed to be
the same, but there was a whole range of ripening times and fruit
appearances, more than environment could account for.
And so it goes.
THIS is the kind of thing a consumer may never realize about a place.
