I agree that this thread has the potential to become mean-spirited, but I
don't think it did; and I doubt that those who shared anecdotes made the
people who asked the questions feel like idiots. We're just talking shop
here.
You're right -- writing is a form of teaching. Do you believe that no such
conversations ever occur in faculty lounges, or parties at teachers' homes?
Just replace "customer" with "student" or "parent." I'll bet even your Prof.
Koch indulged from time to time.
