Title: Tripods for garden photography
I hope this isn't off-topic, but as many garden writers are also
garden photographers, I think the following is still within the list's
domain.
I want to buy a tripod for garden and plant photography, for use
with a 35mm SLR camera. I am mainly using a Gitzo at present,
which is a fine tripod, but difficult to manoeuvre for some shots -
for instance when you shoot from a low angle in order to have sky as a
backdrop for a plant. The Gitzo belongs to my photographer husband, so
I can't have it all the time, but also, it's a bit heavy for me.
So, because I'm trucking a tripod around, along with camera,
lenses, notebook, tape recorder etc, etc, I'm looking for something
light-weight but sturdy .... and versatile. Benbo, a British company,
makes tripods that have a nifty swinging arm attached to the top of
the tripod. The arm allows you to manoeuvre the camera all over the
place, and down to a few inches from the ground.
My questions: Does anyone have any experience of Benbo tripods?
And, if so, are they any good (especially as they are so cheap)? Or
can anyone recommend a good tripod? The Benbo Trekker "gift set"
(the "gift" tag immediately makes me suspicious!) is a mere
£149.99 (British pounds) and includes tripod, ball-and-socket head
and a carry-case. It weighs 2 kilos (4.4 lbs).
According to the web
(www.paterson-intl.com/paterson/benbo/tripod.htm): "The Benbo Trekker has won countless awards around the
world, including the prestigious Practical Photography "Best
British Product of the Year" award in 1992, 1993, 1994 and again
in 1995. Buying Cameras "Accessory of the Year" in 1991 and
"Best Tripod" 1991"
Any advice or info would be
appreciated.
