RE: [GWL]: Landscape trades - what do garden writers want?

Popcorn is annoying! When I ship I use either bubble wrap (if I have
any) or more commonly newspaper. Also, when nurserys ship plants they
spend all that extra money shipping dirt, pot and all....why not give
the buyer a choice? After all most annuals and perennials get potted in
the ground almost immediately anyway.

Hobbyists almost always ship bare root and I have only lost one out of
hundreds of plants sent to me this way. The reason I lost it was the
mail man left the box in full sun and the heat inside the plastic bag
fried it.

Tropicals might be a bit different as many home gardeners don't have
soil, but again, why not offer an option?

I have not bought many plants I wanted to because of the expense of
shipping. Had there been an alternative I would have purchased them. I
mean after all, why buy a plant for $25 and spend $40 total by the time
shipping is added in?

Another annoyance is minimum orders. Many times I've found an unusal
plant and wanted to buy it but there was a minimum order. If I could
drive to their nursery I wouldn't have encountered that. Not only that,
but often I can't find another plant they have that I want. Maybe I'm a
bit picky here but when I have hundreds of plants inside I have to be
picky about the new ones I introduce or I'll run out of room.

Sheri
