Re: Book Organization/Slides
> May I ask how you organize your slides?
Hi Barbara,
I use some metal slide drawers sold by Hightshoe (www.hightshoe.com):
http://www.mallorn.com/~lindsey/slide-drawer.jpg
There are currently four of them in my office. Two are used
for slides of woody plants, one is used for perennials and
annuals, and the last one is a temporary holding area for
slides that need to be labeled and scanned and for pictures of
people and places.
The slides are all alphabetized by subject (i.e. scientific
name, event, place). I also keep track of the slides on my
computer.
Each slide gets a unique number like 122701235. The first six
numbers refer to the date, the next number refers to the roll
number, and the last two numbers refer to the frame number of
the slide. So for 122701235, I have
122701 = 12-27-2001
2 = third roll of film (I start numbering at zero)
35 = 35th frame on that roll of film
That number is printed out on Avery labels along with a description,
location, a rating of the slide's quality, and the type of film used.
It's then affixed to the slide.
The number is also cross-referenced into my computer database
which keeps the same information along with some other stuff
(model release forms, type of lens/camera used, etc.)
Unfortunately, I seem to be incredibly short on time, so my database
updating is, err, backlogged to say the least. :)
Chris
