I have an HP Photo Smart scanner (purchased in 1999) that is dedicated to
slides. I've found if the slide is a good one, the scan is just as good--a
perfect image of it. In fact, I've sold tifs. attached to email to certain
publications that use lesser quality images. Film type doesn't seem to make
any difference, other than the usual characteristics attributed to certain
films such as Ecktachrome being more blue, etc. I have noticed, though,
that I get more rejects (slides that are not usable) with Velvia. It may be
that I am not adept with it or that the slow speed, plus super saturation,
is trickier on macro photography--the bulk of what I do.
My 2 cents worth.
