Organic gardeners hate survey's.......

<<If there is HUGE organic movement, why are they not buying organic
pesticides in larger quantities?>>

Sorry for the spell check confirmation of the wrong word! THAT is why we
have editors......
The answer is simple: Organic gardeners don't use pesticides--even organic
pesticides. I know I don't. And I know that many of my readers don't
either. We don't use Neem etc because it kills the good guys as well as the
bad guys.

Either that, or what they have in their left over arsenal is enough to last
them for a long time.

I want to point out a distinction I see between the old, Rodale-style
organic gardeners vs. those who came to organic gardening (and are still
coming to it even though they don't buy organic pesticides) in the past 10
years or so. The newer folks tend to be real purists. They come to organic
gardening because of fears of breast cancer or that their children with have
ADT or because they worry about Alzheimer etc. They tend to be much more
willing to let nature restore the balance, to use nature to control the bad
guys. They know that most 'icides' are non specific and make restoring a
balance a difficult goal to achieve.

So, I think the statistic is misleading. I know it is up here in Alaska. We
had 11 places selling compost tea to a gardening population of 150,000.
Gardeners who use compost tea here don't use organic pesticides other than a
bit of Bt on their prized delphiniums!

Cheers,

Jeff L in Alaska where snow is finally predicted to fall....
