Re: unusual holiday plants?

You are so right Nancy...I had a rosemary that I would bring in each fall
and then put out each spring, did this for years and it grew very well in
our zone 3a...it sat on a cold sill and was always moist...then I gave it
away it to a good friend hoping it would live for her, but not. She forgot
to water it when outside...it drank a lot of water outside too. I never had
any bugs on mine so I guess I was lucky while I had it and it was great to
be able to take off springs and stuff into chicken when baking it.

People just don't know how to handle them and I think I will mention this in
my October newsletter too :)

The secret to growing Rosemary indoors is keep it in a cold area and
keep the soil moderately moist. That is totally contrary to the
advice given in every herb book I have read. They always say let the
soil dry before watering. Guess what, a dry Rosemary is a dead
Rosemary. To combat powdery mildew I give it a cold shower and power
wash every two or three weeks in winter My little Christmas tree
Rosemary is now over 3 feet tall.
