Re: GWA OKC Mtg on Garden Rant
Hi all,
We enjoyed seeing many of you at the Novalis exhibit booth in Oklahoma City
this year, and I am glad many of you have interest in Novalis' Plants that
Work. In short, it is a group of perennial and annual plant collections and
programs for homeowners from coast to coast. To set the record straight,
the fun concept behind "the baby" in the booth was based upon the idea that
Novalis' Plants that Work in Nooks & Crannies, small-stature plants used for
small spaces and special places, are well-suited for all levels of green
thumb - including very small children.even ones with facial hair. : )
As garden writers and horticulturists, we all chat with each other quite a
bit about wanting the younger generational groups to experience gardening
success and enjoyment like many of us during our youths. Novalis' Plants
that Work in Nooks & Crannies gives us and the younger generations a chance
to get our hands dirty and have a little fun in the garden without too much
fear of failure. I hope this subject-matter (no-fear gardening) is a topic
about which a good many of us will write this year.in our narratives that
educate all kinds of readers about gardening.
If any of you are planning to do some writing this year about gardening for
children, new perennial and / or annual introductions for 2008, or
small-stature plants -and you did not receive a Novalis Plants that Work
media kit at our booth this year.or you'd like some additional photos /
information - feel free to touch base with me. I'd love to hear from you.
All the best,
Don

This is the story I got from a Novalis representative about the "green
baby." Linda Guy, who along with her husband Jay are the principles in
Novalis, has a playful side that comes out when Jay is not around. The baby
is a friend and freelance writer who does projects for Novalis. Linda and
he concocted the "green baby" exhibit to draw attention. Things got a
little out of hand, however, as the baby consumed bottle after bottle of
Corona. He certainly was a site, and I instantly regretted that I left my
camera in my hotel room.
