My husband is a marine geologist and he uses tiny temperature loggers to measure temps on the ocean floor over long periods of time. At home we use them to monitor temperatures in the seed-starting shed. You leave them in place for as long as you want, and then dump the data into the computer to see a day by day (or hour by hour) graph of the temperature. Useful for me because this tells me when I can begin to plant in this solar-heated space. (Last year, a cold winter, it stopped going below 32 f. in mid-February) I'm not sure that it would be worth if for the average gardener to buy the temperature logger and software, but who knows.... if it's important to generate a permanent record of temperature fluctuations, this is the way to go. You can buy ones for underwater, maybe for those pond fanatics?
