I am a tour operator as well as a garden writer and
have flown back and forth from Europe many times. My partner in England
said this last week, after Tuesday's events: "You Americans have long been
lax in security. You weren't safe but didn't know it. Now you
do. You have never been so safe as you will be when you next get on a
plane."

I agree. My daughter is a flight attendent for Lufthansa. She
has compared notes on training with flight attendents from airlines in the
States and is very pleased to have been trained by a German company. Her
training lasted much longer and was much more intense--on medical emergencies
and air rage as well as terrorist attacks. She does some
flights to NY and says that our security is much more lax; she prefers staying
in Europe.
Aside from that, I would not stop flying. It is likely that if
there are any other attempts to attack, they will be different.
