Re: [GWL]: Chelsea 2002

This year was the first time I'd been to Chelsea -- it is an amazing show! Before I went, I asked
Donna Dawson, Chelsea traveler extraordinaire (and a member of this list), what her advice would
be. I hope she doesn't mind that I've quoted her here -- her advice is excellent:

"Bring food to eat because it's too hard to get something to eat.  Bring
water and bring a plastic bag to sit on the ground with.  Dress in layers -
that goes for the whole trip...cool in the morning then hot during the day
maybe..who knows? and bring a brolly.  Take all your film and batteries with
you."

To her words of wisdom, I would add that the hardest thing to do is to keep your mind fresh --
you're bombarded with so much that's new that by the end of the day, it's easy to take things for
granted. I tried to keep fresh by sitting down and talking to people who were visiting the show;
by taking notes during the day as well as at the end of the day (the top of a double decker bus
is a great place for scribbling notes!); by getting out of the show to pubs, shops etc to see how
the city responds to the show; by setting a daily agenda for myself of what I want to accomplish.

Although it's difficult to get media passes to the show, if you present yourself at the press
tent with a courteous request for a media kit, chances are they'll let you inside to pick up any
of the piles of material they have on display. If you do manage to wangle a press pass, the press
tent is an oasis of phones, PC connections, refreshments and air conditioning.
