My two cents regarding media monopoly

I have been closely associated  with the newspaper business for over 30
years and did a 4 -year stint in TV as a freelancer for the local NBC
affiliate.

There is no question that the trend is to dumb down. The news holes are
shrinking in news papers. The trend is toward shorter articles with lots of
graphics. Trust me, the bean counters are running the show.

International news is almost non-existent in local newscasts. During the
sweeps TV news programs turn to violence and sex for ratings.

Detroit used to be one of the hottest radio markets in the country.  New
talent would kill to come to Detroit. Since the FCC has allowed the
ownership of multiple radio and TV stations, the quality of programming has
dropped like a stone.  Infomercial programming is on the rise.

Yes you can get news from around the world but you have to work at it.  And
you probably enjoy that or think it's worth the effort. Others don't or
haven't the time, so they depend on local programming. Forget newspapers,
the trend for years has been a decline in readership. Young folks depend on
radio and TV for most of their information. That's scary. What we have lost
in quality programming as a result of deregulation over the past decade is
gone for good. It could get worse, much worse.

Think about it.
