There seems to be a subcurrent in this debate (the larger debate, not
just here) that some amorphous informed elete should be feeding the
masses the news that they SHOULD have and that deregulation will give
them only the dumbed down version. In fact, the dumbed down version seems
to be what many people want. The question of effort required to find more
depth in news is a red herring. Joe Sixpack, sitting in his Barkalounger
in front of the television, can punch either the ABC evening news or the
PBS NewsHour on his remote. There is no difference in the effort
involved. But take a look at the numbers.
