Re: writing tech manuals


Royalties are probably not practical. Most companies won't want the ongoing 
chore of tracking and paying them. Better to settle on a per-page fee you can 
both live with.
When writing pure techie stuff, I've found it best to (a) begin at the 
absolute beginning, i.e., when the box is opened; (b) proceed methodically to the 
end, and (c) assume the reader knows nothing and is likely to hurt himself and 
sue if you don't explain which end of the shovel goes in the hand, and which in 
the ground. ;-)
