I just love Marianne Binetti's "Tips for Carefree Landscapes" (Storey,
1990). This isn't a book that starts out with a chapter on how to draw a
plot plan for your four acres. Rather it goes at the landscape in small
bites, which is the proper way, especially for the beginner. Very readable,
inexpensive, and full of unusually practical ideas that are intended for the
neophyte but can make him look like a pro.
