taking care of other people's gardens

I loved Betty's example of the person planting and tending veggie gardens for her clients. Not just because it's a brilliant idea,

Wait right here. Where am I losing this? The idea of vegetable gardening is to get your OWN hands dirty and experience the joy, pleasure and pain; not to not to waltz out there and benefit from other people's expertise.
I can't justify this concept; It's just a little creepy to me. Why would one plant a vegetable garden and not participate in it?

As garden writers, we are teaching and guiding the great unwashed (and sometimes manure-laden) masses to fend for themselves. Not to make a buck at the sake of their ignorance/inexperience. Or have I lost something here?

Marina, Florida, garden writer/editor for 35 years, zone 8b where it becoming just right weather-wise. Sorry Jeff L, still a mite chilly up there, no?

Or are highs in the 50s balmy?
