Lurker chiming in here...

I am a member of what was at one time a hugely popular writers list. There 
were well over 500 posts a month and lots of valuable information, 
networking, etc. Then one of the members decided to start a discussion 
board, advertised it openly and often on the mailing list, and essentially 
killed it. If there are 20 posts a month on the list it's a lot. Very sad. 
Of course the discussion board owner claims she never meant to kill the 
list, but that's what happened because of her actions.
I hope the same won't happen here!
