Re: GWA Awards presentations

Amy's points about getting the publishers and stores to help spread the word are all excellent. I would love having GWA take out ads in garden magazines announcing the winners. That would be costly, though.

I have a suggestion that would not cost the GWA anything. There should be AWARD SEALS to stick onto or be printed on the covers of the award winning books. Award seals sell books. They look great in the bookstore and at author events, promoting both the book and the GWA.

One of my books received an award from the American Horticultural Society and ever since then I have been paying them for rolls of golden award seals to place on each book of that title. I stick them on with great pleasure and they show up on Amazon and anywhere else that the book is pictured.

I also won a silver award for one of my books from GWA. I sent out press releases and the author received a certificate to frame. I cranked out some homemade seals once but it wasn't the same. If I ever reprint the book (unlikely) I can embed this award info on the cover.

So, GWA, you can get the publishers to buy these official seals from you. Any good printer can make them for you.

Cheers, everyone, and more free advice from Betty Mackey.
