Re: membership value
Hi Martha,
I agree with all who have posted reasons that GWA is valuable to them. I've met some wonderful people, including you, at the GWA meetings. I think we met at the KC regional. And, as I recall, you're a newspaper staff writer? As you know, the publishing industry is quickly and constantly evolving. One benefit to me is the opportunity GWA offers for staying current on emerging technologies--the latest tools of the trade. From computers to laptops to ipads to iphones, from digital cameras to videos, from Facebook to Twitter to blogs to...who knows what's next, I can count on GWA programming at national symposia, in regional meetings, on podcasts or through the newsletter to keep me in the loop. I can also count on other GWA members to share their expertise with me and encourage me to try new things.
As a regional director, I'd love to know what you're looking for in an organization. What would make your membership more valuable to you? Maybe if others share your needs, GWA can address them. I know we'd all hate to lose you.
Linda Nitchman
GWA Region V Director
P.S. If you're regularly writing about plants and gardening and you're only getting sample plants from one company, you need to get on more lists. Much of that comes from visiting the GWA symposia trade shows, but your directory has a listing of allied trade members. Most are very generous to GWA members who want to write about new plants and products. E-mail me off-list if you need help.
