I don't agree, Helen. I'm taking a class on Bach Flower Essences (my best
friend wanted to take it, so I said OK.) I won't go into great detail here,
but the guy who discovered this method of mitigating personality or
situational emotional states--it truly seems incredible, though I can't yet
vouch for its efficacy--had no yearning for fame or fortune. In fact, he
found these healing powers through intuition (after a lifetime of trained
doctoring and a great deal of experience in homeopathy--he specialized in
bacteria and immunology, and developed 7 vaccines that are still used today;
and gave up his highly lucrative medical practice to follow his
instincts...). My point is, there are many ways to "win," if that's a word
you have to use. For him, he felt a calling, and he had the guts to follow
it through its fruition. He had a vision based on a very gentle belief that
people would heal best if they felt good about themselves in the world (I
don't mean simple self-esteem...). He decided healing could be gentle, and
he found out how. WE won. And thankfully, he knew before he died that he
had accomplished his mission.

Without people who strive to be the best, who strive to 'win', who have
ambition, we would be mired in a world of mediocrity. There would be no
Olympics - nobody would compete. There would no medical breakthroughs,
no new discoveries, and certainly no computers with which to
communicate. Ask Bill Gates how he feels about winning.
