Jim and all,

I had a glorious day taking a little personal revenge on my silver maple.
The giant with the very invasive roots which I have mentioned in the past.
Well, we got out the chainsaw and a twenty foot ladder and pruned all that
could be reached. My hosta should appreciate the sunlight that will now be
shared and maybe recieve a little rainwater also. Maybe I will even get
some grass to grow near it. And to top it all off, the only hosta to get
stomped on was an August Moon and some lancifolia. I was really worried
when we started.

I have good feelings about this season. Next step--working with the roots
instead of fighting them. Will keep you posted.
