We are saddened by this news. I just received a check yesterday where the Benedicts were honoring one of their many friends with a membership to the AHS.
 
It's a sad day in Hostaland.

Subject: The passing of Dorothy Benedict

Dear Friends of the Benedicts:

We are sorry to inform you of the death of Dorothy Benedict.  She died peacefully early this morning at Hillsdale Community Hospital and was 4 weeks short of her 89th birthday.  I know many of you knew and came to love Dorothy.  She had a series of heart attacks beginning July 30: no intervention was possible.  At her and Herb's wishes there will be no visitation or services.

Herb and Dorothy had no biologic children, but, through there great warmth and joy in sharing about hostas and life, they amassed many friends.  Most of their closest friends were able to be here for a final visit.

Herb is physically very limited, but his mind remains sharp.  He celebrated his 89th birthday on July 31, and they would have been married 66 years this week.  I know he would appreciate cards and notes.  Handling the phone is very difficult and taxing for him.  He knows that Dorothy's loss will have a profound impact on his life.  We will keep you informed of Herb's status.
