Re: Differences between species

Where can we find the caracteristics of all the species?

And how many species are they?

Hi Pat,
Bloom dates can vary from year to year because of weather conditions, so they are best considered as periods defined by the species rather than calendar dates. For example, the first period would be sieboldiana, montana, and capitata bloom time, and the last would be longipes and kikutii time. I would recommend you do it that way.

Bill:
Your article on specie traits is exactly what I have been trying to put together as I  organize my thoughts for crossing Hostas and choosing the gene's that will create unique Hostas. Your explanation for each specie with it's good and negative traits is well written and easy to understand. You have put some time into this piece and it is well received and appreciated. You can be sure I will be keeping better notes on bloom dates (something that has not interested me in the past) next year.
