Re: Thomas Hogg Jnr

Hi Robyn
Just to clear the air on this one I have waded thru George's book as follows
Page 46 Decorata - "imported into N America by Thomas Hogg and formerly
called H 'Thomas Hogg', BUT THIS NAME IS NOW INCORRECT"
Page 244 Thomas Hogg Jnr sent to Japan by Pres Lincoln 1862
(father Thomas Hogg (Snr)died in USA 1855)
Page 245 Funkia Thomas Hogg named and both "species" (Decorata & Undulata
albomarginata) sold as it
Cultivars under this name in England are considered to be UNdulata
Albomarginata while in N America the name is(was) applied to Decorata.
"The white margined taxa bearing the Hogg name were mixed up and traded
under the same name for a long time. .........For this reason the name has
been eliminated as a cultivar name."
Page 225 "Thomas Hogg plant name has been applied to several taxa and so is
an incorrect and confusing synonym"
You can say that again!
