Hi Stacy,
I want to thank Gerry for her interesting answer to your millipede question.
A hubby who did his Ph.D. thesis on millipedes!!! How lucky can a woman
get!
Here are some millipede facts from the American Horticultural Society
Encyclopedia of Gardening.
1) Millipedes are encouraged by soil with a high organic content.
2) Damage is rarely serious.
3) Cultivate the soil well if possible and maintain good hygiene.
4) Millipedes once present are difficult to control.
5) The spotted snake millipede(Blaniulus guttulatus)is the most damaging
species. It's slender creamy white body is up to 3/4 inch long with a
row of red dots along each side.
6) Carbaryl dust or methiocarb pellets may have some effect.
Good source of fat free protein, taste like chicken, holds up well when stir
fried.
