Hi Frances,
Where in Florida are you moving? That state has zones from 8b to 10b and a
bit of 11, all lousy to grow hostas in. There may be enough chilling in very
northern Florida and the pan handle to allow hosta cultivation and a few
folks grow them there, but they are not successful plants further south.
They don't get enough chilling to survive long periods. You can grow them,
of course, for a short time (maybe 4-5 years) until they had enough, and
then replace them. Try the species and varieties that grow in southern Japan
and China. H. plantaginea and hybrids and H. kikutii, George
