Plant Patents
Dear Robins,
Reading recent postings about plant patents brought to mind an
interesting aspect of plant breeding, and ethics.
I understand the reasoning behind plant patents (time and money put
into hybridizing), but to me, the patent laws give too much leeway. It
gives people a chance to patent life forms.
What next? Will all the cloned sheep and cows be patented? Will my
children's genetic make-up be patented? It is a deep moral issue to me.
I would like to know what other people, especially hybridizers, think
of this issue.
