dormant vs evergreen

I'd like to know how some of the northern gardeners fell about
evergreen daylilies.  We have some people locally who swear you
should only buy dormants.  I have a number of evergreens that I have
no problems with but I always get a just wait, you'll see attitude
when I say it makes no difference. Opinions?
