Rejuvenating daylily bed

Hi:

I've been contacting friends and will have a plant giveaway
tomorrow.  Have decided to pull everything except daylilies
and buddleias out of one 3x20' perennial bed.

Any ideas on what I can do to add some soil nutrients
without pouring in new soil?  Has anyone had good luck
adding the alfalfa pellets at this stage?
